Camping Trip
On the 13th of September 2017, students all over Ireland received their Junior Certificate results. Most students went home and celebrated their results with family or went on a night out with their friends. In St. Gerard’s however, we received our results and then got straight on a bus and travelled to Lough Dan to spend three days and two nights camping, hiking and bonding. The thought of this frustrated me as I thought there were many better ways to spend my results night than in a cold wet tent in a glen in the Wicklow Mountains. Many of my friends would tell you I didn’t hold back on my thought of the trip prior to going.
My mood changed on the bus however. I thought to myself I’m here now and there’s nothing I can do about it so I might aswell try and make the most of it. I am thankful I did this as I enjoyed the trip very much. I got to know people I rarely talked to aswell. Since we hiked 22km we all got to mix with each other. This let me get to know people I didn’t know too well and I’m incredibly thankful for that. There were also a lot of great moments. I feel I’ll always remember the whole year gathered around the campfire and when we all jumped into the lake not expecting it to be as cold as it was.
All in all it was a very worthwhile experience but most importantly it taught me to not judge something until you have experienced it.
