On the morning of Friday the 22nd if September 2017, I took part in the eagles flight workshop with my classmates. It was almost like a board game. The form class was split into five groups and the aim of the game was to get to a gold mine and mine as much gold as possible before returning home. It wasn’t that easy however as as you were only given limited supplies and fuel that were necessary to get to and from the mine. If you ran out of supplies and fuel before reaching the starting location, you lost half of all gold collected. We were told it’d be best if all of the groups worked together however it wasn’t necessary. At the end of the game we achieved a mediocre score as a collective. One team ran out of fuel at the mine which proved extremely costly. This proved the importance of planning your expenditure prior to the beginning of the game. The groups who put time into planning before the game did extremely well compared to the teams who spent less time planning.
As a class we learned it’s important to keep focused and work hard even when there’s relatively no pressure. This was highlighted by the groups who worked hard when there was no pressure as they achieved the best scores. Those who didn’t plan expenditure of food and supplies found themselves under huge pressure towards the end of the game. Most importantly we were told this applied to school work, assignments and projects. We learned it’s important to work on these things even when there isn’t a lot of pressure. This will leave you less stressed as the deadline approaches. I think this is the most applicable and important thing I’ve learned from the Eagles Flight workshop.
